I can't seem to find any upcoming protests in Olympia or Seattle. I think there should be lots of protesting. :'-(

But why now? Bush's speech was a pretty good protest against himself, I thought.

Because lately, it seems, the movement to impeach Bush has gained some momentum, as well as the idea that our whole bipartisan empire isn't good enough and we need to find some serious ways of fixing things. Though really, none of that's new, and the answer to your question is that now is a good time just as much as any time is a good time. We need more visible signs that the american people are sick of politics as usual. The WTO protest was beautiful, and I guess I just wish I could take part in something like that. I mean, I don't expect the government to do what I want it to do, because I'm on one end of a spectrum of beliefs, but I think it's reasonable to expect that they are an independant government that follows the constitution and does its best to represent all of its people and not just a rich white minority. Obviously we have a long way to go if we are ever going to reach that point, and it's probably not going to happen, but it's possible. Of course, the best protest would be to live on an organic farm/commune , be off the grid, etc, but that's a long term project.

The way things are going, we are running against all the beliefs of the founding fathers: a powerful senate and a weak executive brach as well as an independant judiciary, a fear of major parties running things, etc... if we could at least listen to the folks that formed this country's advice, I would have a lot less to copmlain about. That's a start.

Bush is not getting impeached. He's just not. The Democrats are divided into about a thousand bickering little sects, they've totally alienated anyone who leans further left than Hillary fucking Clinton, and they completely flubbed the whole wiretap/privacy issue.
Also, we live in Washington, land of 7 or so lousy electoral votes. Oregon has fewer. The entire state could protest and no one would give a shit. The power base is in the east, and they're not listening.

Also, this is unrelated, but god fucking dammit. Lieberman was clapping in unison with the Republicans through the whole fucking speech. I can't believe he was on Gore's ticket. GO SIT THE FUCK OVER THERE WHERE YOU BELONG AND LEAVE US THE HELL ALONE, YOU WHITE HAIRED GOON.

No, he's not getting impeached, but if we were abiding by the laws then he would so I'd at least like to hear more vocal threats. Anyway, there was a poll recently that showed 52% of Americans thought we should set up an independant commision to investigate whether there's a case for impeachment or not. I think they said a poll during the Clinton impeachment beginnings showed only like 25%. 52 is a huge number there ... the problem is that the media and the congress don't want it to happen, so it's not going to happen. But the people do, and I think it just doesn't show right now. Lack of media and protests. In other news, the Democrats are pathetic right now. However, the republicans are too. People are sick of both. It's not just liberals who are unhappy. I think if people really tried, we could see serious change. Not in the coming election, or the next presidential election ... but eventally. The republicans are in charge right now because they spent decades building support at the local levels, winning seats on school boards and city councils and advisory boards, taking over the lobbying industry one company at a time and one employee at a time, etc.

Okay. So go find out what permits you need to organize a rally in front of the Capital, go get them, notify all the local lefty organizations that there's going to be an impeachment rally on such and such day, post it on OlyBlog, and flier the hell out of the city and college campuses. Which part of that can't you be doing right now?

Good point. Though, don't you think a rally should be organized by someone who has at least been to one? I suppose that's just an excuse, and I could just do what you said and see what happens ... but I feel like I should start by going to some BRICK meetings, and talking to people about it ... and if there is a protest I hear about that I think deserves attention, I would promote it and put up flyers and such. Before I go out and try to throw together a crappy demonstration that five people show up to, I want to find out why there aren't any going on and if it's just because everyone's too lazy to take the initiative ... maybe that is something I need to do.

Speaking of which I just found out BRICK meets at 215pm ... which means I can go see what that is all about. Most of the club stuff goes on when I'm still at work so I can't take part. Must remember next tuesday...
